The Theater commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Hassan Umaru, has visited Dalori, a Village located five kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, where Boko Haram terrorists massacred close to 70 people on Saturday night in renewed attacks in Nigeria’s northeast, newswire, PRNigeria, said.
Reports said the attack on Dalori village left almost 70 people dead, just days after dozens were massacred in Adamawa and Chibok where close to 300 schoolgirls were kidnapped in April 2014 and hundreds of them remain in captivity.
The Associated Press quoted a survivor who hid in a tree as saying that he watched “Boko Haram extremists firebomb huts and listened to the screams of children burning to death in the latest attack by Nigeria’ s homegrown Islamic extremists”.
Witnesses told AP the insurgents ravaged the settlement for four hours before “three female suicide bombers blew up among people who were fleeing”.
Boko Haram has killed more than 25,000 people in Nigeria since 2009 and thousands in Cameroon, Chad and Niger.
The General during his visit condoled with the District Head of the Village, Alhaji Lawal Bashir and reassured the people of the commitment of the military to apprehend and deal with the perpetrators.
The military commander, it was reported commended the villagers for their resilience and urged them to be strong and to always reports strange movement and objects to relevant security agencies as soon as possible.
He also commended emergency rescuers, humanitarian and health workers for their tireless and timely response.
