One of Nigeria’s major manufacturing hubs Aba will finally begin to enjoy uninterrupted power supply from September 2016, according to Barth Nnaji, founder and Chairman of Geometric Power.
Geometric Power which has built a ring fenced $530 million, 141 Megawatt plant and distribution network for Aba metropolis will be switching on the project from the 3rd quarter of 2016, Nnaji said at a conference in Lagos today.
“This government is working to see that the problems hindering this project is sorted out and by the middle of the year to 3rd quarter 2016 we can commission that project,” Nnaji said.
Nnaji also disclosed that Geometric power was building a 1080 mw OMA power plant in conjunction with General Electric (GE) in Abia state.
The plant is a 3-phase green-field gas fired facility.
The first phase of the OMA Power project is a 500MW (gross) simple cycle facility driven by General Electric Frame 9 turbines and financial close is expected before year end, Nnaji said.
