The Government of the United States has agreed to repatriate about $480 million believed to have been stolen by the late head of state, Gen. Sani Abacha and his family back to Nigeria.
According to reports, the conditions for the repatriation of the cash and other details are being worked out.
The follows the recent meeting between the Department of Justice and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami and the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Magu.
It is believed to be the largest loot ever traced to a former Nigerian public officer in the United States.
Other European countries have recently agreed to repatriate monies stolen by the late head of state back to Nigeria.
