EU to Combat Hate Speech in Digital Services

The European Commission on Monday said the European Union is expanding control over online platforms by including the code of conduct on combating hate speech in the Digital Services Act.

In 2016, several online platform giants like YouTube and Microsoft hosted consumer services and signed the Code of

Conduct to counter illegal hate speech online. The commission said in a statement that “the commission and the European Board for Digital Services welcome the integration of the revised ‘Code of conduct on countering illegal hate speech online +’ into the framework of the Digital Services

Act (DSA), which encourages voluntary codes of conduct to tackle risks online.”The commission added that the amendments are to facilitate compliance, “and to ensure effective enforcement of the DSA when it comes to risks of dissemination of illegal content on their services. #EU to Combat Hate Speech in Digital Services#
