Two boys, who were injured by Boko Haram suicide bombers in Nguetchewe area of Cameroon’s far north on Wednesday morning while attending a funeral, died at the hospital on Thursday, but their parents cannot afford the bills to take their corpses home for burial, reported local newspaper, L’Oeil du Sahel.

At least nine people were killed on the spot and dozens were injured following the February 10 suicide attacks by Boko Haram as they attended a funeral.

The two boys were first taken to a hospital in Koza before they were transferred to the regional hospital in Maroua where they died yesterday, L’Oeil du Sahel said.

“The authorities are asking their parents; Waidama Tchamaya and Goumaï to come for the corpses of their kids. However, they are impoverished farmers who, apart from mourning, do not have a dime to make the trip, much less afford coffins or pay for other things,” the newspaper said in French.

“Worse, they had never ventured more than 10 kilometres away from their village since they were born,” the newspaper added.

The newspaper publisher, Guibai Gatama, called for a global response to handle victims of terrorism, saying he has realised that many victims of suicide bombings are often moved far away from their homes two days after the attacks, only to be abandoned by the authorities in the hospital.

“Many of them complain of hunger,” Gatama said. “‘We are dying of hunger’ they all tell us,” Gatama added recalling various interviews with many victims.
