1. The SEC: Trial Attorney With U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission

So you’re not a hedge fund manager and you’re not living like Martin Schkreli used to. But if you work as a trial attorney for the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission, you could join the charge to protect investors and maintain fair, orderly and efficient markets. Your work will require you to provide expert litigation advice and will entail fostering strong relationships with dozens of state and federal regulators, both on the criminal and civil side. Since the SEC acts as the watchdog of the stock-market, you can be sure your work will be thrilling — and exhausting.

2. Water Works: General Counsel for the Department of Water and Power Division

California has been having a problem with water lately … and it looks like they’re looking for fresh blood in a new GC. As of just a few days ago, the L.A. Department of Water and Power Division is looking for someone new to take the seat of General Counsel and lead it out of these choppy and unforgiving waters. Times have not been kind to the DWP, between the ongoing California water shortage crisis and firing of its security chief, anyone who is lucky enough to get the job will be sure to have a full plate on her hands. As GC to the DWP, you might also have to get used to a lot of changing faces as the whole organization re-brands itself.

3. Bar Prosecutors: Investigation and Prosecutor for the State Bar of California

For years, the State Bar of California had been your bane if you sought licensure to practice law in the Golden State. And now, you too have the opportunity to be on the side of the angels. The State Bar is looking for attorneys with prosecution trial experience who will help out in bringing cases of professional misconduct against your fellow lawyers. You will be required to support the Chief Trial Counsel, and, as such, oral and advocacy skills are a must. We don’t know about you, but that sounds like loads of fun.
