Does your current city have you feeling down? Looking to make a move to someplace a little more happening? As part of our affiliate partnership with Indeed, we’re bringing you the three coolest legal jobs we can find, in some of the coolest cities in the country.
So, pack up that U-Haul. A move could be in your future.
1. Queens: Assistant Commissioner, Department of Correction
Forget, Brooklyn. The borough of beardos and preciously artisanal coffee shops is no longer the cutting edge of New York cool. That title goes to Queens. No really! Queens, once one of NYC’s sleepiest boroughs, is now home to a growing food, arts, and nightlife scene, but without much of the pretension you’ll find in Manhattan or Brooklyn.
So make Queens your new home as Assistant Commissioner of Trials and Litigation for the Department of Correction. As Assistant Commish, you’d oversee day to day trial operations for the Trials Division, which includes internal disciplinary actions against the D.O.C.’s employees. You could be on the cutting edge of important correctional reforms.
2. Los Angeles: Counsel, Employment Litigation, Fox
Welcome to Hollywood! If you head to L.A., you can surf in the morning and rub elbows with the stars at night — or even at work. And don’t let Los Angeles’ reputation as a Kardashian-obsessed, traffic-plagued town turn you away. The city is in the midst of an urban renaissance, with major investments in parks and infrastructure, a great food and arts scene, and a reborn, bustling downtown.
If that sounds good to you, consider this in-house job at Fox. As employment litigation counsel, you’d deal with single-plaintiff in-house cases, supervise litigation outside of California, and counsel Fox on employment law matters. Plus, the position is one of those rare listings that doesn’t require 10 years of experience. Fox is looking for candidates with just two to three years of litigation experience.
3. Portland: Assistant GC, Trademark & Copyright, Nike
Lace up your sneaks and head over to the hip but down-to-earth city of Portland, Oregon. Sure, sure, Portland has become somewhat of a self-caricature in recent years, what with its front yard chicken farms and vegan strip clubs. But it’s still got a great mix of urban amenities, a laid back lifestyle, and quick access to the great outdoors.
Sign up with Nike and you could be biking your fixie to work in no time. As Assistant G.C., you’d work to manage Nike, Converse, and Hurley’s IP rights in the U.S. and aboard. That includes prosecuting patents, managing litigation, responding to third party IP claims, and more. Sounds cool to us.
