Ekiti to refund over-deduction from workers’ salaries

Ekiti State Government will within‎ the next few days’ refunded money over-deducted from the salaries of workers for car, housing and computer loans.

This followed the submission of the report by a committee set up by the State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose that looked into the matter.

Speaking on an interview programme on radio and television in Ado-Ekiti, Governor Fayose also promised that the legacy projects embarked upon by his administration would be completed as scheduled. Vanguard

NCC to license five Infrastructure companies

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Tuesday said it would soon commence the second phases of the licensing of five new Infrastructure Companies (InfraCos) in the country, to bridge existing broadband gap.

The Director, Public Affairs of NCC, Mr Tony Ojobo said in a statement that the licensing of the five InfraCos would bring to seven, the total number of companies issued with the license.

Nigeria’s second quarter trade rises by 49% to N3.9tn

The National Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday released the merchandise trade statistics for the second quarter of this year with the country recording a 49 per cent increase in trade from N2.65tn in the first quarter to N3.94tn.

The bureau in the report made available to our correspondent stated that the increase in trade was as a result of a rise of N725.6bn in the value of imports against what was recorded in the preceding quarter.

It said as a result of the improvement in second quarter trade, the country’s negative trade balance has now reduced by N154.8bn to N196.5bn. Punch

Boko Haram: Wanted Journalist, Salkida Arrested by DSS at Abuja Airport

Ahmed Salkida, the journalist who was declared wanted along with two others – Ahmed Bolori and Aisha Wakil – by the Nigerian Army over Boko Haram’s latest video, was yesterday arrested by the security operatives.

Salkida, who arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja aboard Emirates flight EK 785, was said to have been arrested from the door of the aircraft.

Enugu approves 35 contracts at N2.1bn

The Enugu State government has approved the award of contracts for 35 capital projects comprising the construction of roads, bridges, schools and boreholes across the 17 local government areas of the state.

Ugwuanyi The state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Godwin Edeuhele, made this known while briefing newsmen shortly after the meeting of the State Executive Council, EXCO, in Enugu adding that the projects would gulp about N2.1 billion.

A militant leader in the Niger Delta region, ‘General’ Don Waney, emerged from the creeks on Monday and warned members of the Niger Delta Avengers and other militant groups not to come close to Rivers State.

Waney, who said he was ready to surrender his arms and ammunition and embrace the amnesty offered by Governor Nyesom Wike, urged militant groups in the oil-rich region, including the NDA, to embrace peace and put an end to the destruction of oil facilities.

Benue farmers get N100m cassava production input

‘NLNG’s Act repeal‘ll jeopardise $20b investment’

The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) has warned that any tinkering with the law guiding its activities may spell doom for the country.

Its  Managing Director, Mr. Tony Attah warned that should the House of Representatives go ahead with its plan to repeal the NLNG Act, the company could be forced to halt its over $20 billion planned Train 7 project, which is capable of creating 18,000 jobs.

CBN Reads Riot Act on N213bn Electricity Stabilization Fund

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has rolled out penalties to be meted out to participating commercial banks that fail to comply with the terms and conditions in implementing the Nigeria Electricity Market Stabilization Facility (NEMSF).

The central bank in a circular by its Director, Financial Policy and Regulation Department, Mr. Kevin Amogu, posted on its website Monday, listed 10 infractions and accompanying sanctions to be received by any defaulting participating commercial bank.

The CBN had in collaboration with the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Ministry of Power and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the NEMSF.Thisday

NLNG raises govt revenue by $26bn in five years

The Nigeria LNG Limited says it has contributed more than $26bn to government revenue in the last five years.

The Managing Director of the company, Mr. Tony Attah, disclosed this in Abuja when he met with the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

Petrol marketing corruption has reduced, says IPMAN

Corruption in the marketing of petroleum products, especially petrol, has been considerably reduced with the adjustment of pump price to a maximum of N145 per litre by the Petroleum Product Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA), Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has said.

Its Vice President, Alhaji Abubakar Dankigari who spoke in Abuja yesterday said fuel diversion which was a common practice has now become a thing of the past.

“The system is now okay. The rate of corruption has seriously reduced in the industry. So Mr. President is achieving the aim of fighting corruption in that area, fuel supply is now better,” he said by phone. The Nation
